The Staff

MARTI

The Neurotic One

Marti jumped from foster home to foster home until she ended up in a detention centre for beating up her stepfather. Successfully graduating high school with top marks, Marti pursued a career as a therapist wanting to return and give back to the very same institution that she was once a part of.

Consistently underestimated by others and herself, she is eager to please, but also incredibly stubborn. Overwhelmed and anxious, but also organized and patient, Marti is a living contradiction. She’s also funny, klutzy, empathetic, a good listener, sweet, fragile and puts others before her, to her own detriment.  All in all, the perfect recipe to grow into an amazing therapist. She’ll change someone’s life for the better, and hopefully her own if she can get out from under her own way.

TERESA

The Logical One

Frank, confident and nurturing, Teresa has been the head resident at the Juvenile Detention Center for almost 10 years. She’s seen staff and kids come and go but she’s been one of the most consistent things there. Not everyone can hack it.

She cares deeply about making a difference in the lives of the students, especially Gigi with whom she has grown very close. She is reluctant to be taking on a Marti, worried she may screw up all her work.

GIGI

The Bastard

Abandoned and abused, Gigi ends up at the centre after being charged with arson. She has a colossal chip on her shoulder, however, under the care of Dr. Ross, Duncan, and Teresa, she has begun to rehabilitate and forge meaningful relationships. The fear of her father returning to the picture, and the arrival of Marti creates emotional instability in her.

She is seen as a leader amongst the other juveniles, easily set off, and volatile when she loses control.

DUNCAN

The Dumb One

The only brother to four sisters,  as one of the few males that work at the facility, Duncan treats his position as a social worker with the utmost respect and responsibility.

Soft-spoken, and with ambitions to be a poet, Duncan also has some anger management issues that he puts to good use when forced to discipline the students.

With Duncan, you never know what you're going to get.

DR. ROSS

The One in His Own Universe

Reflective, innovative, and a ‘call it as he sees it’ guy, Dr. Ross is the head of the psychiatric program, as well as the boss of Marti, Duncan and Teresa. His unorthodox methods are part of a bigger plan to quietly change the system and often conflict with the other managing heads of the Centre, especially the ‘Warden.”

The kids react differently to his unusual methods, some resisting his honest and empathetic nature, while others flourish under his belief that they can do better.
